All 24 crew members rescued; fears grow over marine pollution from calcium carbide and heavy fuel oil

The Liberia-flagged container vessel MSC ELSA 3 (IMO No: 9123221), built in 1997, capsized and sank in the early hours of 25 May off the coast of Kerala, India, due to flooding in its cargo hold. Authorities are warning of severe environmental consequences as the vessel was carrying dangerous goods and large quantities of marine fuel. Local officials have urged caution along the coastline due to the potential drift of hazardous debris.

The vessel reportedly listed up to 26 degrees before control was lost and it submerged. On board were a total of 640 containers, (Please read the main text for more.)

　インド・ケーララ州沖で、リベリア船籍のコンテナ船「MSC ELSA 3」（IMO番号：9123221、1997年竣工）が5月25日未明、貨物倉への浸水を原因として転覆・沈没した。積載されていた危険物や大量の船舶用燃料が海洋環境に深刻な影響を及ぼす恐れがあり、現地当局は海岸線への漂着物に警戒を呼びかけている。
