The Japan Shipbuilders’ Association announced on the 23rd, at a related Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) meeting, that an industry group of 17 domestic companies including Imabari Shipbuilding plans to request approximately ¥350 billion in government support for new shipbuilding infrastructure. The initiative aims to double Japan’s current shipbuilding output.

　日本造船工業会は23日、自民党の関連会議で日本の造船業の建造量倍増をめざし、今治造船など国内17社でつくる業界団体が近く3500億円の設備投資を政府に要請する模様だ。

→Maritime Bridge Japanの取材に応じたある商社関係者は、「6月、9月と自民党は政府に日本の造船支援の基金として1兆円、建造能力を現状の約900万総トンから2035年に2倍となる1800万総トンに引き上げるとの提案を出している。今回、日本造船工業会の会長が自民党の会議で説明するのは当然の流れだ」と説明した。
