JERA Signs 20-Year LNG Deal with U.S. Firm NextDecade – Focus Shifts to Shipyard Selection for 4–5 LNG Carriers

JERA、米NextDecadeと20年LNG契約　LNG船は4～5隻体制へ 造船所の選定に注目。

JERA has entered into a 20-year agreement with U.S.-based NextDecade to procure 2 million tonnes per annum of liquefied natural gas (LNG), starting in 2027. The supply will come from the fifth train of the Rio Grande LNG terminal in Texas, and the deal is based on Free on Board (FOB) terms, giving JERA the flexibility to choose the destination for the cargoes. Although the project is still awaiting Final Investment Decision (FID), operations are scheduled to begin in 2027. Initiated during the Trump administration, the project launches amid calls from the U.S. government to use “U.S.-built LNG carriers,” placing the deal squarely at the heart of that agenda. To realise the vision of a Japan-U.S.-led shipbuilding renaissance, building the LNG carriers at Japanese yards would be ideal. However, if this proves impractical, South Korean shipyards are expected to be the likely alternative.

JERAは米NextDecadeと、2027年から年間200万トンの液化天然ガス（LNG）を調達する20年間の契約を締結した。供給元はテキサス州のリオグランデLNGターミナル（第5トレイン）で、FOB（Free on Board）契約によりJERAが仕向け地を自由に設定可能になる見通しだ。同プロジェクトはＦＩD(最終投資決定）待ちの条件はあるものの２０２７年開始が予定されている。トランプ政権下でのプロジェクト開始であり、米政府の掲げる「米国建造のＬＮＧタンカー」が求められる、真っただ中でのプロジェクト開始となる。日米主導の造船黄金時代の復活を具体化するには、日本ヤードでのＬＮＧ船の建造が現実的だが、これが難しい場合は韓国造船所が選択肢となる可能性が高い。
