DryDel Shipping of Greece in a “golden” route and what lies ahead”– CEO Delaportas Commits to “Hard Work” and Doing His Best

In Japan’s maritime and shipbuilding circles, few are unfamiliar with Mr Costas Delaportas, Chief Executive Officer of the Greek shipping firm DryDel Shipping. The company was founded in 1988 by Mr Delaportas’s father, Mr Dionysios Delaportas. Since joining the firm in 2010, Costas Delaportas has energetically cultivated strong relationships with Japanese shipowners, shipbuilders, and trading houses.

Today, Japanese shipowners account for the majority of the 45 bulk carriers under time charter contracts with DryDel. As of the end of 2024, the company owns 13 vessels and holds an orderbook of 10 newbuildings, including two Capesize units.

We spoke with Mr Delaportas about DryDel Shipping’s future outlook and his managerial philosophy, which centres on “hard work” and always striving to do one’s best.

Below, we explore DryDel’s entry into the Capesize segment and the rationale behind it, and, most importantly, the key to Mr Delaportas’s successful engagement with the Japanese maritime and shipbuilding industries.

　ギリシャの海運会社ドライデル・シッピング（DryDel Shipping）のコスタス・デラポルタス最高経営責任者（CEO）を、日本の海運・造船業界で知らぬ者は少ないだろう。同社は1988年、コスタス氏の父ディオニシオス・デラポルタス氏によって設立された。2010年以降、コスタス氏が入社し、日本の船主や造船所、商社との関係を精力的に深めてきた。

　現在、同社が定期用船契約を結ぶバルクキャリア（バルカー）45隻の大半を日本の船主が占める。2024年末時点で保有船は13隻、発注残はケープサイズ2隻を含む10隻に達している。

　ドライデル・シッピングの今後の展望と、「ハードワーク」「常にベストを尽くす」というコスタスCEOの経営哲学について聞いた。
