The United States and Israel on 28 February 2026 began attacks targeting the entirety of Iran. Along Iran’s southern coast lies the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint for global exports of crude oil, liquefied natural gas and car carriers. As tensions intensify, there are fears that vessel navigation may become increasingly difficult, and in the event of a blockade, the impact on Japan could be severe.
