Japan Sends Shipbuilding Delegates to U.S.-Japan-Korea Roundtable at SelectUSA Summit

Ambassador George Glass confirms participation; focus on Japan’s role in allied naval construction

The Japanese government has dispatched delegates from its shipbuilding sector to the SelectUSA Investment Summit, which is being held in the United States from 11 to 14 May. The SelectUSA Summit is a U.S. government programme led by the Department of Commerce. George Glass, U.S. Ambassador to Japan, posted on social media to thank Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Tetsuo Nakano, stating: “Thank you for sending a Japanese delegation to the SelectUSA Investment Summit to participate in the U.S.-Japan-Korea shipbuilding roundtable.

〆日本政府、日米韓造船ラウンドテーブルに日本造船関係者を派遣。SelectUSA投資サミット。ジョージ・グラス駐日大使が公表。

　日本政府が、日本の造船関係者をアメリカで5月11日－14日まで開催中のSelectUSA投資サミットに派遣したことが分かった。SelectUSA投資サミットは米国商務省が主導する米国政府のプログラム。ジョージ・グラス（George Glass）駐日大使がSNSで中野国土交通大臣に対し、「日米韓造船ラウンドテーブルに参加するため、SelectUSA投資サミットに日本代表団を派遣してくださったことに感謝します」と述べた。現在、日本の造船業は日米関税交渉の「日本側の交渉カードの1枚」とされており、米国の同盟国として日本の造船業がどの程度、アメリカの艦艇、商船建造に貢献できるのか注視されている。
