28-Year-Old Bulker “RUN FU 3” Sinks Due to Flooding South of Maldives

Chinese-Linked Ownership Suspected; All Crew Rescued by South Korean Vessel

On 11 June, the Panama-flagged Handy-size bulker “RUN FU 3” (32,900 DWT) sank due to flooding approximately 500 nautical miles south of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean. Built in 1997 and now 28 years old, the vessel’s structural deterioration is believed to have contributed to the incident. All 23 crew members evacuated into life rafts and were rescued by the South Korean-flagged bulker “Maple Harbor”.

インド洋モルディブ南方約500海里の海域で6月11日、パナマ船籍のハンディサイズ「RUN FU 3」（32,900重量トン）が浸水により沈没した。1997年建造の老朽船で、船齢28年を迎える同船の構造的劣化が事故の一因とされる。乗組員23人は全員救命いかだにより退避し、韓国籍のバルカー「Maple Harbor」に救助された。
