According to the Indian Coast Guard, on 6 July 2025, the chemical tanker Fulda exploded during gas-freeing operations off the coast of Kandla Port in western India, prompting the emergency evacuation of all 21 crew members. The vessel, a 26-year-old aging chemical tanker, is believed to have ignited due to contact between residual vapours of volatile methanol and static electricity.
