Frontline plc, the Norwegian shipping company effectively controlled by John Fredriksen, announced on 8 January the release of a statement titled “Strategic Fleet Renewal and Expansion”, unveiling a large-scale fleet reshuffle centred on VLCCs (very large crude carriers).

→ While divesting eight first-generation eco VLCCs built between 2015 and 2016, the company will acquire nine latest-generation, scrubber-fitted eco VLCC newbuildings from an affiliate of Hemen Holding Limited, the private investment company of John Fredriksen and Frontline’s largest shareholder.

→ By simultaneously disposing of ageing vessels and introducing high-efficiency tonnage, the transaction is positioned as a strategic move aimed at expanding exposure to the VLCC segment without increasing overall fleet capacity, while achieving both improved fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.

　ノルウェーの海運大ジョン・フレドリクセン氏が実質的に支配するFrontline plcは8日、「戦略的な船隊更新および拡張」と題するリリースを公表し、VLCC（超大型原油タンカー）を軸とした大規模な船隊入れ替えを明らかにした。

この記事のポイント

→2015～2016年建造の第1世代ECO型VLCC8隻を売却する一方、ジョン・フレドリクセン氏の私的投資会社であり、フロントラインの最大株主であるHemen Holding Limitedの関連会社から、最新世代のスクラバー搭載ECO型VLCC新造船9隻を取得する。
