Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG) announced on 1 September that it had completed, ahead of the rest of the world, the first domestically developed commercial engine powered by ammonia.

Key Points of the Article
→ The new engine, the “7UEC50LSJA-HPSCR,” underwent land-based trial operation under the supervision of an all-Japan framework involving Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line), Japan Shipyard, Japan Marine United (JMU), and the classification society ClassNK.

→ The ammonia-fuelled engine will be shipped in October 2025 to the Ariake works, where it will be installed on an ammonia-fuel transport vessel (AFMGC) currently under construction. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in November 2026.

ジャパンエンジンコーポレーション（J-ENG）は9月1日、アンモニアを燃料とする純国産の商用エンジン初号機を世界に先駆けて完成させたと発表した。

→新エンジン「7UEC50LSJA-HPSCR」は、日本郵船、日本シップヤード、ジャパンマリンユナイテッド（JMU）、日本海事協会（ClassNK）が参加するオールジャパン体制の立会いのもと、陸上公試運転を実施した。

→同アンモニア燃料エンジンは2025年10月に有明事業所へ出荷され、建造中のアンモニア燃料輸送船（AFMGC）に搭載される。本船は2026年11月に竣工する予定だ。
