President & CEO Takeshi Hashimoto stated in Part 1 of the interview that for Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) to compete on the international stage, “Companies not only in Japan but across the world tend to build ‘organisations for the sake of organisation,’ but one cannot survive international competition in that way.”

In this second part, President & CEO Hashimoto speaks about the “winning formula” he has grasped for MOL and the concrete corporate structure for the coming fiscal year and beyond.

→ President & CEO Hashimoto explained, “MOL’s LNG carriers and LNG business are becoming a ‘winning formula.’ LNG-related business is not something that succeeds regardless of who engages in it, but we have accumulated a range of experience, and I now have the confidence that we can operate as a leading company.”

→ On the system of Chairman and CEO, he analysed coolly, “Carrying out the work of a CEO while travelling around the world consumes more energy than one might imagine. I recognise that the Chairman–CEO structure is effective for swift decision-making, but without sufficient vitality and physical strength on the part of the Chairman and CEO, it has no meaning.”
