On July 31, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Mitsui & Co. announced that they have agreed to jointly acquire the base port operation and energy-related equipment manufacturing and maintenance business at the Port of Nigg from Scotland-based Global Energy Group (GEG). Key Points of the Article

→ Following the acquisition, Mitsui & Co. will hold a 51% stake, and MOL a 49% stake. The companies are targeting the mid-2030s to support floating offshore wind and aim to build supply chains and acquire maintenance know-how to expand into the Asian market.

→ With a global shortage of offshore wind maintenance ports, the two firms intend to leverage the functions and experience of the Port of Nigg, combining MOL’s port operation capabilities with Mitsui & Co.’s industrial network through this strategic acquisition.
