MOL said on the 30th that it has been selected as the shipowner of two newbuild liquefied CO₂ carriers as part of the business expansion being advanced by Northern Lights JV DA (Northern Lights), which is developing the world’s first cross-border CO₂ maritime transport and storage (CCS) project.

　商船三井は30日、世界初の国境を跨ぐCO2海上輸送・貯留（CCS）事業を展開するNorthern Lights JV DA（Northern Lights、ノーザン・ライツ）が進める事業拡大に向け、新造の液化CO2輸送船2隻の船主に選定されたと発表した。

→商船三井はこれを受け、29日付で韓国のHD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.と両船の造船契約を締結するとともに、Northern Lights社との間で長期用船契約も結んだ。商船三井は2021年に液化CO2船の運航実績を持つノルウェーのラルビック・シッピング社へ出資しており、今回の契約により、CCSバリューチェーンにおける船主としての関与を一段と深める。

→商船三井の30日の発表に先立ち、Northern Lights JV DAは29日、事業拡大に向けた新造液化CO2輸送船の長期用船契約を締結したと発表した。商船三井の新造船2隻のほか、川崎汽船（K LINE）とMISC Berhadによるコンソーシアムに対し、新造船1隻の用船契約を付与し、2026年4月には2隻目の契約を付与する予定とした。
