MOL to Convert Used Car Carrier into Offshore Data Centre in World’s First Floating Power-Linked Project

商船三井、中古自動車船を洋上データセンターに転用　発電船と連携し世界初の洋上データ拠点事業へ

On 7 July, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kinetics Technologies, a subsidiary of Turkish energy conglomerate Karadeniz Holding, to jointly develop an offshore data centre powered by a floating power plant.

This unprecedented model involves converting a second-hand pure car carrier into a floating data centre that operates on electricity supplied by a Karadeniz power ship. 　商船三井は7月7日、トルコのエネルギー大手Karadeniz Holding（カルデニズ・ホールディングス）傘下のKinetics Technologies（キネティクス・テクノロジーズ）と、発電船から電力供給を受ける「洋上データセンター」の共同開発に向けた基本合意書（MOU）を締結したと発表した。

　世界初となるこのモデルは、中古自動車専用船を改造してデータセンターに転用し、Karadenizの発電船から電力を受けて稼働させる計画だ。商船三井の橋本剛ＣＥＯ（Takeshi　Hashimoto）は２０２４年度の株主総会で、（続きは本文でお読みください）
