Zvezda Shipyard hands over vessel for Sovcomflot operation, destined for Arctic LNG 2

Zvezda Shipyard in Russia’s Far East delivered in late December the country’s first domestically built LNG carrier, the Arc7 icebreaking LNG vessel Aleksey Kosygin, to Sovcomflot.

Key points of the article

→ With a tank capacity of 172,600 cubic metres and the ability to operate in ice up to two metres thick, the vessel is designed for year-round operation on the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and represents a symbolic step forward for Russia’s LNG logistics, which have been stalled under sanctions.

→ The newbuilding is scheduled to be placed on long-term charter for the Arctic LNG 2 project. Through the deployment of domestically built LNG carriers, Russia is accelerating efforts to expand exports to China and to rebuild its export axis following the loss of European markets.

　ロシア極東のズヴェズダ造船所は12月下旬、同国で初めて建造された国産LNG船となるArc7級砕氷型LNG船「アレクセイ・コシギン」をソブコムフロットに引き渡した。

この記事のポイント

→タンク容量17万2,600立方メートル、最大2メートルの氷厚に対応する本船は、北極海航路（NSR）の通年運航を前提とした設計で、制裁下で停滞してきたロシアのLNG物流にとって象徴的な一歩となる。
