South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries said on 2 January that it had secured a contract worth 721.1bn won (approximately $499m to $520m, depending on exchange rates) to build two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

While global demand for LNG carriers is recovering, Japan is moving ahead with public-private efforts to draw up a roadmap for restarting LNG shipbuilding, which has been dormant since 2019. At present, however, South Korean shipbuilders are significantly ahead in securing LNG carrier orders.

　韓国のサムスン重工業は2日、液化天然ガス（LNG）船2隻の建造契約を7,211億ウォン（約4億9,900万～5億2,000万ドル、為替レートによる変動）で締結したと発表した。

→今回の受注により、サムスン重工の2025年受注実績は43隻・総額79億ドルに拡大し、2024年実績を上回った。

→2025年末時点の受注残は133隻、総額286億ドルに達する。世界的にLNG船需要が回復する中、日本でも2019年以降途絶えているLNG船建造の再開に向け、官民でのロードマップ策定が進むが、現時点で韓国造船のLNG受注が大きく先行している状況だ。
