Union Maritime, the UK’s largest privately owned shipping company with a fleet of 105 vessels including ships on order, is accelerating the practical deployment of wind-assisted propulsion.

→ On 20 January, the company and BAR Technologies announced that they had obtained equivalency approval under SOLAS (the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea) from the Marshall Islands flag administration and classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) for two MR2 tankers currently under construction at Wuhu Shipyard in China.

→ The vessels will be equipped with BAR Technologies’ wind-assisted propulsion system, WindWings. The approval, which confirms compliance with safety requirements such as navigational visibility and the arrangement of navigation lights, represents an important milestone in rolling out zero-emission technologies across a large-scale fleet.

→1月20日、同社とBAR Technologiesは、中国・蕪湖造船所（Wuhu Shipyard）で建造中のMR2型タンカー2隻について、マーシャル諸島船籍当局および船級協会ビューローベリタス（BV）から、SOLAS（海上における人命の安全のための国際条約）に基づく同等性承認を取得したと発表した。
