On 2 June 2025, Marubeni Corporation announced it would invest in Gearbulk Holding AG, the world’s largest operator and owner of open-hatch bulk carriers suitable for transporting pulp, paper, and other products. Marubeni is adjusting its investment ratio in Gearbulk to 25%.

Gearbulk, headquartered in Switzerland and led by CEO Kristian Jebsen, became a consolidated subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) after MOL increased its stake to 72% on 20 January 2025, following the purchase of additional shares from the founding Jebsen family. As a result of Marubeni’s latest investment, Gearbulk will now be virtually 100% owned jointly by MOL and Marubeni.

Marubeni also holds a 25% stake in Norway’s Torvald Klaveness and is actively involved in pool operations for bulk carriers.

　丸紅は2025年6月2日、紙パルプや製品輸送に適したオープンハッチ型バルクキャリアの保有・運航で世界最大手のギアバルク・ホールディングス（本社：スイス、クリスチャン・ジェブセン代表）へ出資すると発表した。丸紅はギアバルクへの出資比率を２５％で調整している。

　ギアバルクは、商船三井が2025年1月20日に創業家のジェブセン・ファミリーから株式を追加取得し合計72%の株式保有会社となり、ギアバルクを連結子会社化することで合意した。これにより、ギアバルクは商船三井と丸紅が実質的にほぼ100%の株式を保有する会社となる。丸紅はノルウェーのトルバルド・クラブネスにも25%出資し、バルカーのプール運営を進める。
