Jhonlin Marine Transport (JMT), the shipping arm of one of Indonesia’s largest mining conglomerates, the Jhonlin Group, has made a decisive move to modernise its fleet. The company has placed an order with Japan’s Oshima Shipbuilding for eight new Ultramax bulk carriers of approximately 64,000 deadweight tonnes, with deliveries scheduled between 2028 and 2029.

For JMT, which handles coal shipments from its own mines, the large-scale order represents a strategic step to address both rising transport demand and environmental concerns.
