Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), a Japanese policy-based financial institution, announced on 31 July that it had concluded a loan agreement totalling USD 198 million (approximately JPY 28.7 billion, based on an exchange rate of USD 1 = JPY 145, same below) with a special purpose company (SPC) that is expected to own the vessels to be chartered by Ocean Network Express (headquartered in Singapore, ONE). → The loan targets four newbuild containerships of 13,700 TEU class to be constructed by Japan Shipyard (NSY) and Imabari Shipbuilding. The SPC is scheduled to acquire and own these vessels, which will be long-term chartered by ONE.
