“Japanese Shipowners Gather at Athens’ Japan Day”

At 7 p.m. on 3 June, the Japan Day Cocktail Reception was under way at the Athenaeum InterContinental Hotel in central Athens.

The event attracted just under 800 attendees when it was held in 2024, but this year approximately 900 people gathered at the venue, surpassing the previous turnout.

A Greek shipowner attending the reception quietly remarked to me:

“Don’t you think there are more Japanese shipowners at this year’s Japan Day than usual? Some of them are attending for the first time. And you probably know the reason why.”

I understood what the Greek shipowner, speaking with a knowing expression, was implying.

　6月3日午後7時、アテネ中心部のアテネウム・インターコンチネンタル・ホテルで「ジャパンデー・カクテルレセプション」が開催されていた。

　2024年の開催時には800人弱の来場者を集めたが、今回はそれを上回る約900人が会場に集まった。

　参加したギリシャ船主が私に耳打ちした。

　「今回のジャパンデーには通常より日本船主が多いと思わないか。それも、今回が初参加という日本船主もいる。その理由は君も知っているだろう」
