Reportage 46: Japan’s JOLCO gains ground among overseas shipowners 第46回ルポルタージュ日本船主、JOLCOの海外船主向け活用広がる

On 16 October, the fifth Japan Maritime Forum, organised by US-based Capital Link, was held at the Tokyo American Club.

At a ship finance panel featuring six Japanese financial institutions, participants discussed 100% financing through Japanese Operating Leases with Call Options (JOLCOs) and the international competitiveness of Japanese financial institutions.

The theme of the finance panel was “JAPANESE SHIP FINANCE SOLUTIONS FOR GLOBAL SHIPPING”.

The discussion by Japanese financial institutions of JOLCOs for overseas shipowners was certainly consistent with the panel’s theme.

Yet why were Japanese shipowners based in Imabari, Kure and other regional shipping centres not visible in discussions of JOLCOs provided by Japanese financial institutions?
