Japanese-Linked Vessels Effectively Complete Their Withdrawal

Four Vessels Remain in the Gulf as 689 International Merchant Ships Continue to Linger

The withdrawal of Japanese-linked vessels that had remained stranded inside the Persian Gulf for an extended period has been effectively completed. On July 10, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Kaneko announced that a further 22 Japanese-linked vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz between July 7 and July 9, leaving only four Japanese-linked vessels remaining inside the Gulf.

Meanwhile, AXSMarine data show that although the number of merchant vessels detected by AIS in the Persian Gulf west of the Strait of Hormuz has declined by about 35%, 689 vessels still remain inside the Gulf, highlighting that it would be premature to conclude that the Hormuz crisis is fully over.
