South Korea’s Hanwha Group is restructuring the management of its Philly Shipyard in the United States. It aims to transform the facility into a dual-use shipyard capable of building both US Navy vessels and commercial ships. The US government has outlined a policy of drawing on foreign companies’ technology and investment to rebuild its shipbuilding capacity.

Japan and the United States are also pursuing joint research and development of AI-based shipbuilding technologies under a memorandum of understanding on shipbuilding co-operation.
