The Posidonia maritime exhibition will open in Athens, Greece, on 1 June.

At a coffee shop in central Tokyo shortly after Japan’s Golden Week holidays, a Japanese shipowner passionately explained the significance of travelling to Greece “now”.

“As European brokers have pointed out, Greek shipowners invested in, or ordered, newbuildings at record levels during the January-March period this year. Crude oil tankers account for the majority, but this also includes bulk carriers ordered at Chinese shipyards. The objective is to secure depreciable assets through BBCs (bareboat charters) linked to the newbuildings ordered by Greek shipowners,” said a Japanese shipowner based in the Shikoku region.
