First US-built LNG carrier in 50 years awarded to Hanwha, aligning with USTR’s LNG export policy

On 22 July, South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean reported to the Korea Exchange that it had signed a contract, worth approximately KRW 348 billion (USD 250 million), for the construction of one LNG carrier. The order was placed by Hanwha Shipping LLC, an affiliate of the Hanwha Group, through its US-based subsidiary, Hanwha Philly Shipyard. → While the main construction will be undertaken at the Geoje yard in South Korea, Hanwha Philly Shipyard is expected to be responsible for obtaining US Coast Guard certification and for addressing specific regulatory requirements.

→ The United States Trade Representative (USTR) has proposed a new framework requiring US-built and US-flagged LNG carriers for the export of US-produced LNG from 2028 onwards.

→ Japanese shipyards have effectively withdrawn from LNG carrier construction since 2019.

　韓国のハンファオーシャンは7月22日、韓国証券取引所に対し、米国関連会社のハンファ・フィリー造船所を通じて、グループ傘下のハンファ・シッピングLLCからLNG船1隻の建造契約（約3,480億ウォン＝2億5,000万ドル）を締結したと報告した。建造作業は主に、　（続きは本文でお読みください）
