Basic agreement reached on low-carbon ammonia transport, marking the start of commercial fuel shipments to Japan

低炭素アンモニア輸送で基本合意、日本向け商用燃料輸送が始動

NYK announced on the 22nd that its group company, NYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd., has signed a memorandum of understanding with JERA on the basic terms of a time charter contract for two VLGCs (very large gas carriers, large LPG carriers) to transport ammonia.

→ Under the agreement, NYK plans to transport low-carbon ammonia produced under JERA’s Blue Point project in the US state of Louisiana by sea to the Hekinan thermal power station in Japan. This is expected to become the first case of commercial marine transport of fuel ammonia destined for Japan.

 日本郵船は22日、グループ会社のNYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd.が、JERAとアンモニア輸送船VLGC(大型LPG船)2隻の定期用船契約に関わる基本条件合意書を締結したと発表した。

この記事のポイント

→日本郵船の今回の契約は、JERAが米国ルイジアナ州で進めるBlue Pointプロジェクトで製造される低炭素アンモニアを、日本国内の碧南火力発電所へ海上輸送する計画で、日本向けの商用燃料アンモニア輸送としては初の事例となる見通しだ。
