NYK said on the 23rd that it and its group company Knutsen NYK Carbon Carriers AS (KNCC) had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Petronas CCS Solutions Sdn. Bhd. (PCCSS), a subsidiary of Malaysia’s state-owned oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), toward building a carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) value chain.

Key points of the article

→ The defining feature of the CCS transport to be adopted by the NYK group this time is the use of the “ambient-temperature, elevated-pressure (EP)” method developed and promoted by KNCC.

→ By not assuming the use of cooling equipment, the NYK group aims to improve energy efficiency and simplify facilities, and will examine the technology and economics with a view to the commercialisation of cross-border CCS projects.

　日本郵船は23日、同社およびグループ会社のKnutsen NYK Carbon Carriers AS（KNCC）が、マレーシア国営石油・ガス会社Petroliam Nasional Berhad（PETRONAS）の子会社Petronas CCS Solutions Sdn. Bhd.（PCCSS）と二酸化炭素回収・貯留（CCS）バリューチェーン構築に向けた基本合意書（MoU）を締結したと発表した。

この記事のポイント

→今回の郵船グループが導入するCCS輸送の特徴は、KNCCが開発・推進する「常温昇圧（EP）」方式を採用する点にある。

→日本郵船グループは冷却設備を前提としないことで、エネルギー効率や設備簡素化を図り、越境CCSの事業化を見据えた技術・経済性を検証する方針だ。
