According to Taiwanese authorities, on January 1, 2026, a Panama-flagged handysize bulk carrier built in 2006 and operated by a shipping company under Taiwan’s China Steel group ran aground north of Hualien port on Taiwan’s eastern coast, while a tugboat dispatched for rescue operations also encountered difficulties, further complicating the situation.

→ The vessel involved was the CSE Prosperity Express, measuring approximately 169 metres in length (IMO number 9345647). She had completed a voyage from Thailand and was standing by for a pilot ahead of her scheduled entry into Hualien port.

→ Following a report of a main engine malfunction amid strong winds and high seas brought by the northeast monsoon, the vessel reportedly lost manoeuvrability and was driven towards the coast. 　台湾当局によると、2026年1月1日、台湾東部・花蓮港北側で、台湾の中国鋼鉄（China Steel）グループ傘下の海運会社が運航するパナマ船籍で2006年建造のハンディサイズ型バルクキャリアが座礁し、救援に向かったタグボートもトラブルに陥る事態となった。

→事故を起こしたのは、全長約169メートルの「CSE プロスペリティ・エクスプレス」（IMO番号9345647）で、タイからの航海を終え、花蓮港への入港を控えパイロット待機中だった。
