New Chaplain: “A Chaplain Is Not Someone Who Speaks, but Someone Who Listens”

新任チャプレン「チャプレンは話す人ではなく、話を聴く人」

■Giving Thanks and Offering Prayers for All Seafarers

A Sea Sunday service, an international religious observance dedicated to giving thanks and offering prayers for seafarers around the world, was held on July 12 at Yokohama Yamate Seikokai Church in Naka Ward, Yokohama.

The event was organised by Mission to Seafarers (MTS) Yokohama, the UK-based Anglican international seafarers’ welfare organisation. Representatives of seafarers’ welfare organisations, members of the shipping industry and local residents attended the service, praying for the safety and wellbeing of the seafarers who support global maritime trade.

Following the service, Revd. Dick Johnson, who was appointed Chaplain in Yokohama in February this year, and Christopher Eve, Representative of Mission to Seafarers Japan and a former seafarer, spoke to Maritime Bridge Japan about the challenges facing today’s seafarers and the role of MTS.
