 Toyo Construction Co Ltd has taken delivery of DISCOVERY, a hybrid-powered self-propelled cable-laying and construction vessel ordered from Norway’s VARD, a designer and builder of specialised vessels.

 As development of offshore wind power and long-distance subsea high-voltage direct-current transmission networks progresses, the capacity to lay and maintain fibre-optic submarine cables supporting international communications is also emerging as an economic security issue.
