Expectations are rising for Australia to play a greater role in Japan’s LNG procurement following the Strait of Hormuz crisis. Australia is Japan’s largest supplier of LNG and is regarded as the most significant alternative source to Middle Eastern cargoes.

At the same time, Australia is beginning to face new challenges as policies prioritising domestic gas supply and the risk of operational disruptions emerge. This second instalment examines the new risks confronting Australian LNG, widely viewed as an alternative supply source.
